| LEAN MANUFACTURING ROADMAP |
The Lean Implementation Roadmap provides the strategic direction for a company or facility to become Lean producers. It provides an assessment of where you are currently and maps out an improvement plan and preliminary design for improvement. There are two (2) papers that were presented at conferences by Manufacturing Engineering, Inc. The latest is by Larry Zimmer called "A Lean Manufacturing Roadmap" presented at MFG98 in Chicago. The second one is by Jerry Hoskins called "Developing a Lean Implementation Roadmap", presented at the SME Lean Manufacturing Conference in 1997. These papers are in Adobe PDF format.

We support the Roadmap with conceptual designs, analyses, simulations, and economic benefits that communicate the expected results before implementation begins. We normally provide a preliminary design to show how the project will meet the strategic objectives. Often we support this with a process simulation that demonstrates system performance. This simulation also serves as a very effective tool for communicating the plans and training employees prior to implementation.
A key element of the Roadmap is the definition of a plan to reduce inventory in raw materials, WIP, finished goods and service parts. This plan should address the tasks required to move from the current situation to an eventual system that reduces cost and delivers product to the customer when required. In fact, the inventory reductions usually pay for the project within six months of implementation.
Need to reduce your lead times to be more competitive? We can provide solutions through the entire process of "Order to Payment". Perhaps new commercial technology should be incorporated or proprietary technology developed to reduce cycle time.
We can benchmark your current status to U.S. industry and provide you with the data that: 1). demonstrates plan achievability and 2). the magnitude of results which can be expected. For example, we may show you that moving from the 25% percentile to the 50th percentile in your industry by implementing given projects will generate inventory savings, productivity gains, and cycle time gains of definable amounts.
We provide you with benefits and costs to allow an evaluation of the program.
